Breathe Easier! Asthma Clinic Is Here!

Western Wake Pediatrics, P.A. has developed an Asthma Management Plan with our asthma patients in mind. In conjunction with the National Institute of Health and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations on asthma management, we proudly bring to you our Asthma Clinic.

We have set aside Tuesdays for our patients to schedule appointments for the Asthma Clinic. At this appointment, we will review the patient's Asthma Action Plan, review medications, perhaps perform a spirometry test and learn new information. There are so many variables when it comes to managing asthma including age, asthma severity, environmental settings, allergies and triggers just to name a few!

Some items for discussion will be: What is Asthma? What are common triggers? What are signs of an impending asthma attack? When does the parent call the provider or go to the Emergency Department? Is the medication being administered properly? How does the patient maintain control?

For those patients who are 5 years old and older, we will be performing a spirometry test, which is an easy lung function test. It is similar to blowing out candles on a birthday cake! Barb Mathews, our Nurse Practitioner and Diane Barbour, our Asthma Nurse will be guiding our patients and families with their asthma management.

Our goal is to allow children to remain active in sports and exercise, sleep through the night without having asthma symptoms, not miss school days, and ultimately prevent catastrophic asthmatic episodes that could result in death. Your children are important to us. Please review the asthma guidelines. Please call for an appointment and ask for an Asthma consult. Now take a deep breath and relax!
